A Simple Sabbath Story
by Joy Scafide
I asked some friends of Rising Day Ministries to share some thoughts on their own Sabbath and Sunday practices. Specifically, what do they do to celebrate the Sabbath? I hope to begin a nice collection of thoughts and ideas that may stretch and challenge us to reflect on our own traditions and see what aspects are drawing us nearer to Christ on the Lord’s Day and perhaps add new pieces that bring new life to stale habits.
Here is one of those Sabbath stories from a dear friend, Austin Connors:
“No sabbath observance for me is identical to the one that preceded it or the one to follow; but almost all include time for corporate worship which includes praise, thanksgiving, prayer, and proclamation as well as a separate Bible study and discussion period where my understandings are confirmed or challenged in the fellowship of other Christians. Additionally, I seek quiet reading and meditation time and usually an outdoor activity such as a walk in the forest or neighborhood to enjoy God's gifts in creation. Finally, I strive to do something for someone else such as write a note or make a visit to one who has been ill or in need of encouragement and support that can come with human connection.”
Thank you, Austin, for walking us through a Sunday in your home.
